Charlotte, N.C. –
Charlotte Latin School has named David-Aaron Roth the school's next Director of Student Leadership Development. Roth's selection came after an extensive national search, including a diverse group of candidates. "Leadership has been part of Latin from its inception, and it is the cornerstone of Latin Leads, our strategic plan for the next five years," said Latin's Head of School, Chuck Baldecchi. "I'm confident that David-Aaron's extensive experience and knowledge in this area will help us refine and expand this curriculum."
Roth is scheduled to receive his Doctorate of Education in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Innovation from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA, in May. In 2019 he attended Columbia University as a Teachers College Summer Klingenstein Fellow. He holds an M.Ed. in School Leadership from Mercer University, Atlanta, Georgia, and a B.A. from Indiana University, Bloomington, IN.
Roth has held several positions at the University of Virginia, including previous positions as Program Manager and Student Advisory Council Lead (January 2022–present) in the Vice Provost of Academic Outreach's Office. He worked at Woodward Academy (September 2014–August 2020), a Pre-K to Grade 12 school in College Park, GA, as Service Learning and Community Engagement Coordinator and English Teacher (grades nine and ten).
About his appointment, Roth said:
I don't know many schools across the nation that place leadership as a Core Value of their practice, which was a stand-out feature for me of Charlotte Latin when I was considering my next steps. Many schools may list Leadership in a myriad of other values that they intend to teach or instill in their students before they graduate, yet it gets lost in the day-to-day life of studenthood. Here, at Charlotte Latin, it isn't lost or even implicit; rather, it is explicitly stated and prioritized in ways that make me impassioned to continue doing the great work already underway.
Roth has professional leadership experience, including leading a school delegation on a service trip to Zambia, Africa, for sister-school relationship building, and giving Service Learning and Community Engagement presentations. He was featured in an Atlanta Journal Constitution article on behalf of Woodward Academy (2019) and its Service Learning Program (2020). His Laboratory of Citizen Education and Leadership at the University of Virginia has received multiple grants since its founding in 2021.
Roth's role as Director of Student Leadership Development begins on July 1, 2023.
