Welcome to the Week A Preview of This Week at Charlotte Latin School Good morning everyone,
The ceremony has moved from in-person to virtual. Twenty-five students are being inducted this year. Prior to the ceremony, certificates will be delivered to the inductees with their Cum Laude pins; parents will pin their students. Historically, current members of the Charlotte Latin Chapter of the Cum Laude Society present the awards to their classmates. Members this year have prepared video versions of these presentations which will be shared with the inductees, their families, and the full Latin community on May 4.
Students will either submit a video clip of their performance to be included in a larger concert video, or we will live stream the concert with performances happening in everyone's homes. We are still finalizing this, so stay tuned for an amazing spring concert.
Usually an Upper School spring assembly, this year's Honors & Awards ceremony will be virtual and honor seniors only. It will be held jointly with a surprise version of the Senior Supper on May 17. We are still finalizing details and will share those with you shortly. Our plan is to also recognize the recipients at Commencement.
Due to the consolidation of Senior Supper with the senior portion of Honors & Awards, and also because of our inability to gather for a real-time worship event, we will not have a Baccalaureate Service.
The seniors will celebrate Senior College T-Shirt Day on May 1 via a Google class meeting, wearing the t-shirts of their college choice. We will record the meeting and share a video of the event with the Latin community. This is a proud day.
We are creating a tribute slideshow for all of our Latin Lifers.
May 15 will be the last day of school for the Class of 2020 and will be marked with a surprise version of the Last Day Luau and an official welcome into the Latin Alumni Association.
We have worked with student leaders and identified three potential dates for Commencement Exercises: (1) May 29, (2) June 12, or (3) July 31. Our goal is to have a physical ceremony, and though we do not yet know what that means, we are exploring the possibility of using Patten Stadium, with social distancing and a jumbo screen. Expect more information soon.
The Booster Club is hard at work on moving the awards celebration from physical to virtual on May 19. They are exploring ways to broadcast the ceremony and videos. Details to come.
We will honor each senior on social media throughout the month of May. Be sure to watch your Facebook and Instagram feeds for these exciting posts.
For our soon-to-be seniors, getting their "Home of a Senior Hawk" sign is an important rite of passage. We are organizing a pick-up drive-thru and treat for late May.

Community in Time of Quarantine – Parents' Council Makes Faculty and Staff Feel Like Heroes As a token of appreciation, the Parents' Council delivered HOME OF A CHARLOTTE LATIN HAWK HERO! yard signs last week to all employees. Read some of the heartfelt sentiments below:
"The signs may be small but they are a HUGE lift to all of us." admit I got a little teary-eyed when I discovered it! Remote teaching has been a journey into new territory for all of us. You made us all feel valued and appreciated. Once again, I am reminded of how incredibly lucky I am to teach at Charlotte Latin. " Pictured below: A collection of Hawk Heroes.
