Varsity Boys' Soccer



Overview


The Varsity Boys’ Soccer team earned the 5th seed heading into the 2017 NCISAA tournament. They lost to Christ School in the playoffs to finish the season with an overall record of 9-10-1 (5-5-0 in conference play). Led by Lee Horton since 1985, the Hawks soccer program has a strong legacy and valued traditions.

Coaches


  • Head Coach
    Coach Horton

    Lee Horton has been coaching the varsity boys’ and girls’ soccer teams since August 1985. He has 19 NCISAA titles to his credit (7 with boys’ teams and 12 with girls’ teams), including the last four consecutive girls’ championships. Horton was inducted into the United Soccer League’s Women’s Hall of Fame in 2011, the North Carolina Soccer Hall of Fame in 2007 and the Ravenscroft Hall of Fame in 1997. He was the Hawkspys Coach of the Year in 2005 & 2010 and was selected by US Soccer as the National Coach of the Year for High School Girls (private/parochial) in 2017. Horton has also taught P.E. classes for Latin since 1985.

  • Assistant Coach
    Kyle Searles
    Coach Searles has been assisting the Hawks since 2016 and filled the head coach role for the Middle School Boys’ team in 2017. A stand-out player at Butler High School, Searles competed for Belmont Abbey College initially as a defensive back but later moved to the goalie position and finished his senior season in the top 25 nationally in save percentage. He works as the Director of Coaching for Weddington’s WCWAA soccer club and substitutes in Latin’s P.E. classes.
  • Assistant Coach

    Coach Alt grew up in Charlotte and was an All-State soccer player for Providence High School. He went on to play at UNC-Greensboro and was part of their three-time conference championship team. After a 14-year career in the banking industry, Coach Alt is working toward a teaching degree at UNCC. He and his wife, Emily, have two children in the Lower School at Latin.
