What Latin means to me: Charlotte Latin was the first community where I felt values were not just talked about, but witnessed seen in action. Of those values, Moral Courage remained steadfast through instruction and conversation amongst students, faculty and staff. Charlotte Latin prioritizes the importance of exhibiting moral courage which undoubtedly shaped my perspective within my relationships and discourse with others.

College: NC State - Mechanical Engineering

Career: Owner and Consultant of Vibration Technology and Reliability Services, Inc.       

What Latin means to me: From Latin, I certainly learned enough to pursue an engineering degree which provides a fulfilling career. The other life lessons I learned I have endeavored to apply through the years: Do my best, strive to excel, respect everyone, be open to new ideas, be aware of the world around me… and think.

My fondest Latin memory: My most vivid memory is from the first time I visited campus as a new student my junior year.  As I strolled through the covered walkways, I remember a genuine, warm and welcoming environment that felt like "home."  My Latin 'buddy' who showed me around campus that day became a friend, a teammate, a fraternity brother and a groomsman in the days and years that followed. Some of my best memories come from the Latin classrooms and athletic fields--forging lifelong bonds through the challenges we accepted and overcame together.

Career: Deloitte Consulting - Senior Manager, Healthcare Strategy 

My fondest Latin memory: My fondest Latin memory is winning the 2006 Varsity Girls Tennis State Championship as an undefeated team - 16-0, a perfect season. The final Championship win on a warm fall day in Raleigh was the capstone to a remarkable fall (and we screamed and sang on the mini bus the entire trip home, much to the delight of Coach Bob Currie), but the lessons I learned about leadership, teamwork, and resilience, and the friendships I made with my teammates that season, left an indelible mark on my life.

Career: Trial Preparation Assistant for the New York County District Attorney's Office

My fondest Latin memory: My entire time with the Hawks Wrestling team. Traveling for matches, Senior Night, and the trips to Taco Bell after tournaments are just some of the most fun times I had with the guys on the team. Also, spending lunch and free periods playing gamecube.

What Latin means to me: I am so proud to be a part of the Latin community, first as a student, and now as a parent. When my family moved here in the 7th grade, I met students, teachers, and coaches who quickly became like family to me. I love the sense of belonging and community at Latin. It set the foundation for so much that I am grateful for in my life!

Career: Office Management at Jami Masters School of Dance and Mom

My fondest Latin memory: Having the opportunity to play the lead role in “Guys and Dolls” my senior year is something I’ll never forget! It was such an honor being entrusted with carrying a show, and to say I learned a lot is an understatement. The focused attention of our director, choreographer, and vocal coaches not only led us to putting on a fantastic show, but there were also countless lessons and life skills we were taught that I’ve been able to carry throughout life. I feel extremely fortunate that I had the opportunity to experience such an incredible musical theater program and am thankful Latin values the arts.

What Latin means to me: From Latin, I learned the importance of hard work, integrity, and free thinking. These are all values I carry with me today.

What Latin means to me: I am a Latin-Lifer. I met my wife here in Kindergarten. Latin molded me into the person I am today, and the traits I value in myself all began at Latin. Latin is a unique place that not only challenges students mentally and educationally, but also successfully fosters an environment where students build the character that they carry with them for the rest of their lives.

What Latin Means to Me: As a Latin student for seven years and now a Latin parent, I feel blessed for my continued connection to the school. Without Charlotte Latin, I would not have met my wife, or made many of the relationships that I cherish today. Latin's values, loving and fostering environment, teachers, and education are second to none.

Career: Vice President, Market Solutions Strategy, Optum

My favorite Latin Memory: My entire senior year. Playing football for Coach Mac, serving as the boys’ and girls’ basketball teams’ announcer (“the voice of the Hawks”), being in the winter musical, and taking a year off of playing Lacrosse to join the JV Golf team. All while loving the small and incredibly interactive classes with excellent teachers and being a part of a friendly and inclusive graduating class.

What Latin means to me: Apart from my parents, I consider CLS to be the most foundational/critical piece to the success I've had in both my career and much of my life. The education, values, relationships, etc. had a huge part in molding me. I am eternally grateful to CLS and will always do what I can to ensure others are able to share similar experiences.

Fondest Latin Memory: As a Latin lifer, I have many fond memories of Latin but the one that means the most to me happened in third grade when Natalie Gaines ’13, and I cemented our friendship as we practiced daily in the backwoods of the playground for our May Day Play Day talent show performance. Though the debut was…. well, subpar, the bond that we created was everlasting as she is my most cherished friend and godmother to my daughter! I will forever be thankful to Latin for our friendship and all the life lessons and relationships I gained along the way.

What Latin means to me: I had many relatives at Latin both before and alongside me, so Latin was already filled with family when I arrived for my first day of kindergarten. I had no idea that I would form lifelong friendships with classmates and teachers, who would become part of my family. I will be forever grateful for the connections I made at CLS and the love, happiness, and support that they brought into my life. Latin is family.

What Latin means to me: Charlotte Latin gave me the best possible start to my education. As I reflect on my time, I realize how lucky I was to grow up surrounded by passionate teachers that made learning a joy, lifelong friends, and a close-knit community that made Latin feel like a second home.

What Latin means to me: I am proud to be a Latin Lifer and now a Latin parent. Latin played a key role in molding me into the person that I am today. I am grateful that my children also get to experience this wonderful school. I met my husband at Latin as well as many lifelong friends. Latin provides a supportive community where children learn the importance of honor and serving others, while becoming high character leaders.

What Latin Means to Me: Latin will always hold a special place in my heart not only because of what it means to my family and those that came before me but because of how it shaped my own life through the lifelong friendships I made there, the phenomenal faculty and staff that prepared me for the future, and all others who have come to be a part of my life through Latin.

What Latin means to me: Charlotte Latin is a special place for me and my family. As the oldest of three Latin Lifers, I thoroughly enjoyed my 13 years on campus and particularly appreciated being able to share that experience with my two younger siblings. From my earliest memories of Mrs. Vandiver tap-dancing on our kindergarten classroom table to Mr. McIntosh's leadership class my senior year, I truly "grew up" at Latin. Charlotte Latin is much more than a world-class academic institution, it's a place where moral courage is mainstream, servant leaders are cultivated, and life-long relationships are formed.
