Middle School
We commit to our creativity, our resiliency, our Latin community.
We navigate our middle years with prowess — and lots of
support from our peers and teachers. The development of skills both social-emotional and intellectual are at the center of each class experience as we grow into compassionate leaders and ambitious learners.
Program Highlights
Alongside challenging, project-based classes, time management and collaboration are emphasized throughout the Middle School curriculum. Learn more about our unique MS programs below.
STEAM

Emotional Intelligence
The developmental stages of students are affirmed and supported through an age-appropriate curriculum that strengthens communication skills and compassion for one another.
Lamm Hawks Quest
Students practice creative problem solving and take initiative with the challenging, hands-on activities of Hawks Quest, Latin’s MS signature experiential education program.
Model U.N.
Students take part in Model U.N. as part of Latin’s Global Studies program. They research current issues and global topics, and then debate and negotiate with each other to create solutions.
“The Middle School at Charlotte Latin School aims to equip students with the academic, executive functioning, and social skills integral to becoming a curious learner and dynamic collaborator. Additionally, the MS program focuses on breadth over depth, encouraging students to try new activities and explore elective classes that bring joy to learning. A casual walk through the Middle School hallways will reveal students engaged in active learning such as simulations, collaborative group tasks, and many opportunities for public speaking. The Middle School believes that this crucial stage of social and academic development should be challenging, yet filled with joy. ”
Todd Ballaban, Head of Middle School
Motivating and Caring
Middle School student-faculty relationships are key to children’s growth. Teachers recognize their students’ strengths and provide support and motivation where needed. Because of the expertise and talent of our teachers, students leave 8th grade feeling prepared and excited for Upper School.
