Track & Field CISAAs: 2 champs, a new record, 3rd place team finishes
Charlotte Latin hosted the CISAA Track and Field Championship May 13-14, 2022. More than 400 athletes represented the six member schools of the Charlotte Independent Schools Athletic Association with nearly 1200 event entries. Providence Day won the boys' and girls' team competitions, followed by Country Day in second, and Charlotte Latin in third.
Seniors Madeleine Pease and Jaylen Jones earned All-Conference as individual event winners in the girls' and boys' high jump, with a 4'10" and 6'1" performance respectively. The girls' 4x400m relay team of Mary Schleusner, Maggie Klingman, Madeleine Pease, and Nina Lavelle set a new Latin school record with a time of 4:05.36, shattering the mark of 4:10.50 set in 2011 by Sarah Whitmore, Laura Gill, Tricia Murphy, and Kameron Spence. Nearly fifty personal bests were achieved by CLS athletes, and those who qualified will travel to Ravenscroft School for the NCISAA State Track and Field Championship May 20-21.
This meet would not have been possible without the incredible support of the Charlotte Latin community. In addition to the track and field coaches and the athletic department, the facilities staff, and security, there were 115 volunteers making the event run smoothly in countless ways. Thank you to all who helped provide an exceptional environment for the competitors, coaches, and spectators.
