Students Win Oratorical Contest

Seniors Gabe Stein and Nyela Rucker participated in the NC American Legion District 20 Oratorical Contest on February 11. Each contestant prepared a ten-minute speech on an aspect of the U.S. Constitution, with an emphasis on a citizen’s duties and obligations. As part of the competition, contestants had to prepare a three to five-minute impromptu speech on a specific topic as it relates to the basic principles of the government under the Constitution.
Gabe won first place and Nyela came in second, earning them scholarships. Later this month, Gabe will represent the district at the state competition. Congratulations to both Gabe and Nyela!
