SpaceX’s rocket to Mars runs on methane fuel. Do you know why*? Many of our students do, thanks to a February 27 visit from Drew Orsinger, Latin parent, current CEO of Tractiv, and former Chief Security Officer at SpaceX. Mr. Orsinger shared about SpaceX and its many endeavors with Upper School students during lunch periods and with Middle School students in an afternoon assembly.

Students heard about the important role SpaceX plays in taking supplies and people to the International Space Station. They learned about the Starlink system of satellites that will bring wifi to all areas of the planet—with no dead spots—through a mesh network of interconnected and overlapping satellites far out in space. Students also heard about career opportunities at SpaceX, including support roles outside of engineering.

Orsinger left the students with this message: everything SpaceX achieved is because of its unflagging commitment to learning through failure and standing firm in its goals. 

*The SpaceX rocket runs on methane fuel because you can actually get methane on Mars. By using methane, astronauts can extract the fuel for their return trip to Earth.
