The NCTC High School Play Festival program showcases the talent of more than 3,500 students from 100+ schools in more than 130 productions. The Festival gives schools from all across the state of North Carolina the opportunity to share their talents and celebrate their collective achievements. 

Matt Cosper, Director of Theatre Arts, and four students from the Upper School acting class – Abby Carson ‘25, Dominick Charles ‘25, John Puyleart ‘26 and Flo Roper ‘26 – traveled to the Festival in Boone last weekend. They presented two short works by Anton Chekhov: The Marriage Proposal and The Brute. 

The performances were hugely popular with audiences and received overwhelmingly positive feedback from adjudicators. 

At the awards ceremony Charlotte Latin received four awards: 

A Theatre Arts Award recognizing their work in reimagining classic texts. 

An Excellence in Design and Production Award honoring Abby Carson and Flo Roper for the hard work they did performing in one show, and stage managing the other. 

An Excellence in Acting Award for Dominick Charles. This is the second year in a row that Dominick has received this accolade. 

An Excellence in Directing Award for Matt Cosper. 
 
“I’m incredibly proud of our hard working and talented students. They represented Latin well onstage and off. The adjudicators, both college professors, compared our student’s work favorably to that of their own. In addition it was incredibly gratifying to see a high school audience respond so positively to the work of a late 19th century playwright,” says Matt Cosper. 

Student auditions for Xanadu, Jr. (Middle School) and Mean Girls (Upper School) take place from November 6 - November 10.
