Callie Lloyd, mother of Wyatt (Kindergarten) and wife of CLS alum Will Lloyd '00, visited 8th Grade History classes and shared her experience and expertise as a New York County Assistant District Attorney. She creatively brought a mock trial experience to school inspired by our Middle School fall musical, Frozen, Jr. Mrs. Lloyd drafted a mock trial experience that resulted in the "People of the Kingdom of Arendelle v. Prince Hans."

Students not only learned the complex steps in a criminal trial, they ultimately experienced the trial procedure and role-played the various roles involved. From drafting an indictment to securing witnesses, to considering the available evidence, and prepping opening and closing statements for both sides, students were carefully guided through the legal process. "Even jurors came to appreciate their role as the try-ers of FACT, as opposed to judges as the try-ers of LAW," said Mrs. Putman.

Mrs. Putman added, "This past week was indeed a memorable experience for our 8th graders; they not only appreciated the many constitutional rights afforded us, but they also had to think on their feet, question thoughtfully, discern evidence...all valuable skills in the 21st century and in a democracy. We speak of rigor and relevance in our Middle School program; last week highlighted this. We are incredibly grateful to partner with someone so invested in our Latin community!"
