Boys’ Golf Team Wins State Championship

The Charlotte Latin Boys’ Golf team won a state championship trophy this week, successfully defending its NCISAA [North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association] title. The victory marked the second consecutive title for the team and the fourth in the history of the program. The Hawks displayed their depth in the tournament at Bryan Park in Greensboro, North Carolina: Charlotte Latin had six players in team competition plus five more playing as individuals.

The tournament, which began on Monday, May 13, was scheduled for two days but was beset by rain on the second day. Play was suspended at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday because of standing water on the course; after a two-hour pause yielded no improvement in the weather, officials deemed the tournament to be complete and used the 18-hole scores from Monday to determine individual and team standings.

The Hawks playing in the team competition: sophomores Griffin Cheatwood, Henry Holland, Aston Lee, and Til Wagner, plus freshmen Will Moody and Graham Wagner. Competing as individuals: seniors William Adams and Mac Brownlow, junior Brendan Miles, and sophomores Jack Hollmeyer and Wills Hutchinson.
