Blue Review 2024 Receives Multiple Awards

The 2024 issue of Blue Review, the literary and arts magazine of Charlotte Latin School, has received armfuls of awards a year after its release for its high level of achievement. The North Carolina Scholastic Media Association gave the magazine eight “section awards” for particular aspects of the magazine, including first place for art, cover design, and theme development. The NCSMA also issued 13 individual awards to Latin students for their work, including first-place awards for fiction (Isabel Yang ’26), feature writing (Athena Woodward ’25), an individual photograph (Jackie Rao ’26), poetry (Athena Woodward), nonfiction layout (Samora Elam ’26), and fiction layout (Jolin Cheng ’26). The overall publication received NCSMA’s highest rating, All-North Carolina, and its highest honor, Tarheel (reserved for student-driven work within the All-North Carolina class).
In addition, the magazine received the highest honor available from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association, a Gold Crown. The CSPA also cited five particular aspects of the magazine with individual Gold Circle awards, including a first-place award for the table of contents page, which went to the collective staff of Blue Review.
The magazine was also lauded by the National Council of Teachers of English, one of only 125 publications across the nation to receive the highest distinction, NCTE REALM First Class.
