2024 Middle School Affirming Community Together (A.C.T.) Diversity Conference

In a collaborative effort, Charlotte Latin School joined hands with Charlotte Country Day School, Providence Day School, and Cannon School for the Middle School Affirming Community Together (A.C.T.) Diversity Conference on April 4, 2024. This dynamic event, held on Latin’s campus, brought together students, educators, and community members in a shared commitment to creating a more inclusive society.
The conference was led by 21 exceptional Upper School student leaders, who designed and facilitated four impactful workshops focusing on crucial themes: Breaking Stereotypes, Identity Exploration, Inclusive Leadership Skills, and Cultural Awareness and Appreciation. These young leaders engaged participants in thought-provoking discussions and interactive activities, fostering a deeper understanding of diversity and its importance in our communities.
A delegation of Middle School students from Latin, Country Day, Providence Day, Cannon School, and Charlotte Preparatory—as well as several adults—participated in the conference, actively contributing to the enriching dialogue and collaborative learning. One of the highlights of the event was a special session for adults—led by renowned middle school educator and diversity practitioner Rosetta Lee—where participants delved into strategies for "interrupting with care," emphasizing respectful and constructive communication in diverse settings.

The conference's overarching theme, "Equity and Inclusion: Striving for a Community of Belonging," resonated throughout the day's activities, inspiring participants to embrace differences, challenge biases, and work towards a more inclusive environment both within and beyond the school walls.
Through thoughtful discussions, engaging workshops, and meaningful connections, the 2024 Middle School A.C.T. Diversity Conference empowered attendees to become active agents of change, promoting equity, and fostering a sense of belonging for all members of the community.
