Latin Students Raise $10,000 for Charlotte VA Health Care Center

Congratulations to Watts Humphrey ’26, founder of the nonprofit Pickle for Pops, and his fellow board members Thomas Hamilton ’26, William Hamilton ’28, Baker Humphrey ’28, Henri Snoots ’26, and Quinn Wooster ’28 — Pickle for Pops just raised $10,000 for the Charlotte VA Health Care Center. Watts started the charity in memory of his late grandfather, Joseph “Pops” Ballato, who received medical care at the facility: when he learned that the golf cart that it used to transport disabled veterans had broken down, he resolved to raise the money for a new cart and other pressing needs at the hospital. Pickle for Pops fundraises by hosting pickleball tournaments: the inaugural tourney (on March 2, won by Robert Comly ’28 and James Edge ’28) raised a hefty $10,000. They’re already planning their next pickleball tournament for the benefit of Charlotte veterans, tentatively slated for October, this time expanding to include an adult bracket. Great job to everyone at Pickle for Pops — your school is proud of you!
