Latin Students Named to District Honor Band

After a rigorous audition process, three Latin students were named to the 2025 South Central Band Directors Association’s All-District honor bands. Congratulations to Sofia Rodrigues Angrisano ’30 (clarinet), Carlie Tillman ’31 (bass clarinet), and Nishant Ashri ’27 (clarinet)! All three participated in a clinic at Stuart Cramer High School (in Belmont, NC), culminating with a concert on January 25. Carlie Tillman was a member of the MS Concert band, which performed pieces including “Celtic Air and Dance #2” and “Shakespeare Meets Godzilla.” Sofia Rodrigues Angrisano was a member of the MS Symphonic band, with a repertoire that included “Uniquely You” and “Legend of the Honjo.” And Nishant Ashri was part of the High School band for 9th and 10th grade, which was directed by composer Carol Brittin Chambers and performed “Electric Jellyfish” — a piece by Chambers specifically commissioned for the clinic and concert.

The SCDBA encompasses independent, public, and charter schools in nine different counties in North Carolina, so competition for each seat is particularly fierce. Well done, Nishant, Sofia, and Carlie — your school is proud of you!
