Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Our Commitment
As a community of learners, Charlotte Latin School is committed to creating a welcoming and supportive environment that accepts and honors all people. We respect individual differences, including, but not limited to, ethnicity, gender identity, national origin, race, religion, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic status.
The school’s commitment to fostering an inclusive community is grounded in civility, which is reflected in its Mission and Core Values. Thus, all members of the Charlotte Latin School community are expected to demonstrate respect for themselves and others, to show empathy and kindness, to take responsibility for their actions, and when necessary, to exemplify the moral courage to preserve the safety and well-being of others.
Belonging at Charlotte Latin School is something we build together — through action, care, and intention. I am proud to help create spaces where all students feel safe and celebrated. Vernette Rucker

Student Programs - Alliance Clubs
The CLS Mission is to encourage individual development and civility in our students by inspiring them to learn, by encouraging them to serve others, and by offering them many growth-promoting opportunities. The student-led Diversity Club and Alliance Groups align perfectly with our school’s mission as they raise awareness about issues of inclusion of, respect for, and civility toward all persons across many dimensions of identity.
Parent Engagement
- Parent DEI Education
Our Parent Education Learning Sessions offer a deeper dive into topics related to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). These engaging sessions are a perfect opportunity for parents to grow their knowledge and build awareness. Each session features a mix of guided learning, group discussion, interactive activities, and personal reflection. - Exploring Culture through Food: Cookbook Club
We transform the typical book club model into an immersive cultural experience by focusing on the stories and traditions behind the food we eat. The Parent Cookbook Club is an opportunity to connect with fellow parents while exploring diverse cultures one delicious recipe at a time. Each session is more than just a shared meal; it's an exploration of the history and lived experiences of a culture through its most cherished dishes.
As a parent, I recognize that Charlotte Latin’s commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) aligns with the school’s mission to “encourage individual development and civility” among students. Latin’s support of DEI will positively affect individuals and our global society for generations to comeAlethea Powell
