Valuing Our Teachers
Charlotte Latin's theme line, "Where teaching is valued and learning is celebrated," is not merely a promotional statement used in our advertising. It reflects the guiding philosophy that the School's founders' instilled in the School when they created an educational institution that was dedicated to hiring and retaining excellent teachers who provide an outstanding learning environment for their students.
To support our teachers and nurture their own lifelong love of learning, the School dedicates generous resources to support their professional development. An endowment dedicated to this purpose funds teachers' trips, conferences, and pursuit of advanced degrees. For example, our Latin teacher was able to visit Rome and walk among the earliest sites of Western Civilization. An Upper School science teacher learned about conservation of the rainforest in Costa Rica. Two Middle School teachers walked on the Great Wall of China, a once-in-a-lifetime experience that will infuse their unit on China with valuable insights. These and other continuing education opportunities made possible by Charlotte Latin ultimately benefit our students, whose lessons are richer and more substantive by virtue of their teachers' experiences.
Teachers at Latin also are supported by a Mentoring Program, which provides formal guidance for young teachers and those new to the School, and by a Professional Growth and Renewal Program that offers positive feedback and encouragement through peer observations.
