Six Charlotte Latin music students receive honors

Charlotte Latin music students have been selected, on the basis of audition, for the North Carolina Western Regional Orchestra and the South Central District Bandmasters Association All-District Bands.

Juniors Connie Zhou and Grace Lowe and seniors John O’Keefe and Kate Player were selected for the North Carolina Western Regional Orchestra, which will meet on March 2-4, 2012, at Appalachian State University. Zhou will be in the cello section in the Honors Orchestra; Lowe will be in the first violin section in the Repertory Orchestra; Player will be the second chair oboist in the Honors Orchestra; and O’Keefe will be in the bass section in the Honors Orchestra.

Player also was selected as the first chair oboist in the South Central District Bandmasters Association Senior High School All-District Band Clinic, which was held on January 27-28, 2012, in Hickory, N.C. Middle School students Carl Kim, who was selected as first chair clarinet, and Emily Padgett, who was selected as an alternate in the clarinet section, participated in the Middle School All-District Band Clinic.

In addition to their All-District Band honors, Player and Kim also placed high enough to audition for the All-State Honors Band in March.
