Boys' Swimmer of the Year:
Charlie Higgins
Charlotte Latin


CLASS: Senior.

HEIGHT: 6-foot-2.

WHY HE WAS CHOSEN: Higgins had two automatic All-American individual performances (46.09 seconds in 100-yard freestyle; 51.04 in 100-yard backstroke) and one All-American consideration performance (21.38 in 50-yard freestyle) while winning two N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association 3A titles. He was first-team All-Observer in three events.

COLLEGE: Virginia Tech, because I like the coaches and the team. Plus, it's a great school.

FAVORITE PRO ATHLETE: Larry Bird; he was one of the best basketball players of his time.

DEFINING MOMENT THIS SEASON: Dropping 10 seconds in my 200 backstroke and doing a 1:46.61.

WHAT PEOPLE MIGHT NOT KNOW ABOUT YOU: I enjoy playing the guitar.

WHAT'S IN YOUR iPOD: Pretty much everything.

BEST LESSON YOU'VE LEARNED: Reaching your goals might be difficult, but with hard work and perseverance you can achieve them.

FAVORITE TV SHOW: "Two and a Half Men"

LAST MOVIE YOU SAW: "Cloverfield"

IF YOU COULD BE PRESIDENT FOR A DAY, WHAT WOULD YOU WANT TO ACCOMPLISH? Spend more money on helping people and less money on war.
