As the end of the school year draws to a close, many of Charlotte Latin's students are gaining recognition for their academic achievements.
Twenty-four Charlotte Latin students were recently inducted into the Cum Laude Society. They are: Stephen Douglas Buchanan, Kalyn Samson Carson, Havlin Crispin Crittendon, Alexander Ryan Henderson, Carissa Rachelle King, Mary Elizabeth Ashby Klein, Philip Haywood Koonce IV, JohnMatthew Lucci, Kathleen Ryan McDeavitt, Noah Harvey Menaker, Christina Dorothea Ospina, Shashank Suresh, Ethan Jeffrey Treanor, Stewart Whitfield Boss, Denise Taylor Dubick, Kasey Alexis Haas, Garrett Wade Herigstad Hess, Joseph William Metz, Murrill Irene Oakes, Christine Mary O’Keefe, Jenay Alexis Powell, Jacqueline Tillar Stedman, Madelyn Blum Welch and Emily Frykman Zuehlke.
Fifty-six Latin students have won awards for achievement on the National Latin Exam. Please click here to see the list of students who have been honored. In addition to the summa cum laude, magna cum laude, and cum laude honors, Latin senior Louise Hindal has been given a book award for winning a gold medal on the exam for the past five consecutive years.
Latin seniors Shashank Suresh and Elizabeth Weisner have been recognized for their achievements in the 2008 Latin Translation Contest. Shashank won a Book Prize, and Elizabeth was awarded a Letter of Commendation. Three hundred fourty-nine exams from 47 schools were submitted for grading; Shashank and Elizabeth are two of only 34 students recognized for their outstanding performances on the exam.
