Charlotte Latin art students accumulate 60-plus Scholastic Art Awards

Forty-three Charlotte Latin School art students have received honors for their work in the 2010 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards competition. Administered by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers, this national competition recognizes seventh- through 12th-grade students. Each year, the Alliance receives thousands of works, submitted through its regional affiliates for consideration in more than 25 categories of art and writing.

Of the 43 students, 21 qualified as Gold Key winners and have advanced to the national competition in New York City. Charlotte Latin Gold Key students include: Betsy Brooks (drawing), Grace Bryant (mixed media), Joseph Cato (painting), Sparling Davis (printmaking), Liza Fortenberry (photography, three Gold Keys), Maggie Gardner (painting), Cameron Johnson (mixed media), Eliza Karp (mixed media), Caroline Kelly (painting), Lily Kelly (mixed media), Lea Kokenes (drawing), Hobbs Maker (mixed media), Sarah Manns (mixed media), Julia Maund (painting), Sara Morrison (photography, two Gold Keys), Waseem Nafisi (drawing, two Gold Keys), Katherine Peters (sculpture), Caroline Rand (mixed media), Cameron Smith (photography), Isabel Steen (mixed media) and Sara Thomas (mixed media).
