Charlotte Latin Invaded by Robots

The campus resembled a sci-fi movie on December 4 as more than 800 young science and engineering enthusiasts competed in a robotics competition sponsored by First LEGO League (FLL). The students, ages 9-14, were from the Charlotte and Greensboro areas, and they were invited to Latin by Middle School engineering teacher Tom Dubick. Guided by adult mentors and their own imaginations, FLL students solve real-world engineering challenges, develop important life skills, and learn to make positive contributions to society. FLL combines a hands-on, interactive robotics program with a sports-like atmosphere in internationally-recognized competitions. Teams of up to 10 players focus on team building, problem solving, creativity, and analytical thinking to develop a well thought out solution to a problem currently facing the world – the “Challenge”- which this year focuses on designing robots that conduct bioengineering tasks. Thanks are extended to all of the parent and student volunteers who helped make the Region 2 competition a great success.
