Charlotte Latin seniors receive National Merit Scholarships

Charlotte, N.C. - Four Charlotte Latin School seniors have won National Merit Scholarships. Jack Landseidel won a National Merit Scholarship sponsored by the ASM Materials Education Foundation and Jenay Powell, Jacqueline Stedman and Emily Zuehlke each won a National Merit $2,500 Scholarship.

Landseidel is among more than 1,000 distinguished high school seniors who received corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards financed by approximately 200 companies, foundations and other business organizations. Scholars were selected from students who advanced to the finalist level in the National Merit Scholarship competition and met criteria of their scholarship sponsors. Most of these awards are renewable for up to four years of college undergraduate study and provide annual stipends that range from $500 to $10,000 per year. Some provide a single payment between $2,500 and $5,000.

National Merit $2,500 Scholarship winners are the finalists in each state judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills and potential for success in rigorous college studies. They were selected by a committee of college admissions officers and high schools counselors.

National Merit Scholarship recipients may use their awards at any regionally accredited U.S. college or university.
