Keesler '80 speaks at Convocation

The Honorable David C. Keesler '80 (second from right) was welcomed back to Latin's campus for Convocation Exercises, held Friday, Aug. 29, in Thies Auditorium. Keesler, a U.S. magistrate judge, was the featured speaker for the event, which marked a milestone for seniors as they anticipate graduation in May.

Keesler spoke to the audience of students, parents, faculty, and staff on the topic of happiness. Keesler noted that, in his experiences, people who were happy and successful could be defined by five P's: people, passion, persistence, positive outlook, and participation. He challenged the audience to develop and maintain relationships, identify their passions, and to use their time and talents to make the world a better place.

Keesler also spoke fondly of his alma mater. "From the beginning, Latin captured lightning in a bottle," he said. He recalled the "special educational experience" he received at Latin, which included classes with teachers such as Martha Owen and Ken Collins. "What made it special then still makes it special now," he said.
