Illustrator E.B. Lewis spoke to fourth and fifth grade students about his life and work during presentations on Monday, May 4. A self-described class clown in school, E.B. recounted his path from being a ridiculed student who spent a lot of time visiting the principal to a student who discovered his passion for art through the help of his uncle, Bradley.
His uncle, also an artist, taught at Temple University and enrolled E.B. in art classes at the Saturday morning Temple University School Art League. E.B. completed his undergraduate studies at Temple’s Tyler School of Art and has exhibited his works in galleries nationwide.
His watercolor illustrations first appeared in Jane Kurtz's Fire on the Mountain. He has since illustrated more than 20 books, and has won the Caldecott Honor and the Coretta Scott King Illustrator Award.
