Selected recipients also are chosen for their strong character and willingness to serve as role models for current Charlotte Latin students.
Son of former Charlotte Mayor Richard Vinroot and his wife, Judy, Vinroot received his medical degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Since graduating he’s traveled the world to bring medical care and comfort to patients. Following Hurricane Katrina’s destruction in New Orleans, Vinroot remained in the city for months treating patients in tent hospitals and temporary facilities such as the Superdome.
He’s also participated in medical mission trips to Nicaragua and ÂMexico, and for eight months supervised a tuberculosis prevention program in the Mathare slums outside Nairobi, Kenya. Most recently Vinroot treated patients in Haiti following the horrific earthquake in January.
In 2008 Vinroot joined Doctors ÂWithout Borders after completing his residency in emergency medicine at Louisiana State University. That same year, the Louisiana State University Health Science Center presented Vinroot with the Acadian Ambulance Senior Excellence in EMS Award for exemplifying the best in emergency medicine practices.
Vinroot currently resides in New Orleans and serves on the Ochsner Clinic Foundation’s medical staff.
