Sounds of Appalachia

Four-time Grammy Award-winning folk musician David Holt entertained Lower School students with his banjo playing and homespun tales in Thies Auditorium on Monday, Oct. 26. Holt is dedicated to performing and preserving traditional American music and stories and currently hosts public television’s Folkways, a North Carolina program that takes the viewer through the Southern mountains visiting traditional craftsmen and musicians. He also tours the country performing solo, with his mentor Doc Watson, and with his band, The Lightning Bolts.

Holt plays ten acoustic instruments and has released numerous recordings of traditional mountain music and Southern folktales. He also performed in the 2000 film, O Brother, Where Art Thou?
