Members of the Class of 2011 congratulate one another before Convocation exercises in Thies Auditorium on September 3. Headmaster Arch McIntosh thanked the seniors for setting a positive tone for the new school year, and Head of Upper School Lawrence Wall recognized the class for its collective and individual achievements to date, particularly its academic accomplishments. Wall encouraged the students to include everyone in the class, to set high standards, and to stay strong to the end.
Headmaster Emeritus Dr. Edward J. Fox, Jr. presented the keynote address, which he described as a memoir of his 25 years as Latin’s headmaster. Marking the School’s Fortieth Anniversary, Dr. Fox stated that he focused on preserving the Founders’ vision for the School. He took the audience of Upper School students, senior parents, and faculty-staff on a mental tour of the campus as it developed over the years and as it served as the scene for many stories, both funny and sad, but always memorable. Dr. Fox pointed out that many current students are the children and grandchildren of the people who share his memories of Latin. “CLS is an ever improving continuum of families and family life,” he observed.
