WHY HE WAS CHOSEN: McNulty guided the Hawks to their fourth straight N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association 3A championship.
DEFINING MOMENT THIS SEASON: Nanna Okwara, expected to win the discus (at the state meet), had fouled on her first two throws. One throw left, and she hits a good one and goes on to win the event. Her win put the girls in position to win and they responded beautifully.
BIGGEST COACHING INFLUENCE: My high school football coach Otto Kneidinger, and my college coach Al Jacks.
BEST LESSON YOU'VE LEARNED: As a young coach I was overly concerned with winning. Now, I'm more concerned with helping young people become great adults.
WHAT PEOPLE MIGHT NOT KNOW ABOUT YOU: I am an avid outdoorsman who likes to fish and hunt turkey.
FAVORITE TV SHOWS: Everything on the Outdoor Channel.
LAST MOVIE YOU SAW: Star Trek.
FAMILY: Marilyn and I have been married 39 years. We have three sons – Cullen lives in Charlotte, Connor lives in Virginia Beach and Carson lives in Charlotte.
