The Charlotte Latin School boys and girls swimming and diving teams claimed a pair of conference titles on Feb. 11, Âwinning the Charlotte Independent Schools Athletic Association championships at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center.
The Charlotte Latin boys scored 271 points to outdistance second-place ÂCharlotte Country Day (208), third-place Providence Day (191) fourth-place ÂCharlotte Christian (134) and fifth-place Concord Cannon (122).
In the extremely close girls team Âcompetition, the Hawks (258 points) edged Charlotte Country Day (243) and Providence Day (238) for the title. Cannon (126) was fourth and Charlotte Christian (56) fifth.
The Hawks now direct their attention toward the independent-school Class 3A state meet, which will be held Monday, Feb. 22, also at MCAC in uptown ÂCharlotte.
At last week’s CISAA meet, the ÂCharlotte Latin girls were powered by a stellar Âperformance from Lindsay Bosek, who won two individual titles and participated on a pair of first-place relay teams. Bosek cruised to the 50-yard freestyle crown in 24.80 seconds, and then she won the 100 freestyle in 54.22. In the 200 medley relay, she joined Caroline Higgins, Ashley Dyke and Maggie Gardner to win in 1:55.17. Bosek, Dyke, Higgins and Meredith ÂSummers also won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:44.37.
Higgins and Dyke also won individual titles. Higgins claimed the 100 backstroke in 1:02.25, while Dyke won the 100 breaststroke in 1:12.14.
The Charlotte Latin boys had just one individual winner, as Collin Higgins took gold in the 100 backstroke in 52.49 Âseconds. However, the Hawks had a pair of dominant relays squads. Collin Higgins, William McKinney, William Gardner and Obi Eruchalu won the 200 medley relay in 1:44.63. Collin Higgins, Preston Griffith, Gardner and Eruchalu took the 200 freestyle relay in 1:33.30.
In addition to Bosek, the meet had four additional swimmers who won at least two events.
Among the boys, Charlotte Country Day’s Andrew Stranick won the 200 individual medley (2:04.31) and 100 breaststroke (1:02.70); Providence Day’s Graham Kirby won the 200 freestyle (1:46.47) and 500 freestyle (5:04.35); and Charlotte Christian’s Paul Bohn won the 50 freestyle (22.59) and 100 freestyle (49.11).
Providence Day girls swimmer Syd ÂLynblom won the 200 IM (2:12.83) and 500 freestyle (5:18.38).
Charlotte Country Day’s individual winners included Sam Frost, who won the girls 200 freestyle (2:00.10); Jourdan Cline, who won the girls 100 butterfly (1:00.24); and Zane Turpin, who took first place in the boys 100 butterfly (53.21).
The Bucs also swept the 400 freestyle relays, as Stranick, Turpin, Ben Rhyne and Eddie Mansius won the boys event (3:28.66) and Cline, Frost, Katie Nelson and Katherine Smith took the girls competition (3:51.32).
