Latin sweeps NCISAA 3A titles

Charlotte Latin's Ross Cockrell won three individual boys' events and Malai Walker and Jasmine Isley each won two girls' events to help Charlotte Latin sweep the NCISAA 3A titles at Forsyth Country Day.

It was the first title for the boys' team since 1993, and the first sweep for Latin since 1991, and the third consecutive title for the girls' team.

Latin's boys beat runner-up Providence Day, 112-99. The girls beat Durham Academy, 137-98.

Cockrell won the 100 meters (11.23 seconds), 200 (22.45) and 400 (48.42), the latter establishing a meet record.

He also teamed with Carl Gambrell, Jalen Ross and Korde Tuttle to win the 1,600-meter relay (3:35.68).

Walker swept the 100 (12.29) for the fourth straight time and 200 (24.87) for the third straight year. She set records for both events in Friday's preliminaries (100, 11.92 and 200, 24.78).

Isley won the 100 hurdles (14.91) and set a meet record in the 300 hurdles (44.36).

Both also ran on two winning relays. The pair teamed with Jenay Powell and Brea Sharma to win the 400 relay (49.45) and set a record in the 800 relay (1:44.18).

Nnenna Okwara also came through for the Hawks with a victory in the shot put (34-9).
