Twenty-two football players from Observer-area schools were named to the North Carolina team in the Oasis All-Star Shrine Classic, a Nov. 27 all-star game for private and independent schools.

The state's top 36 seniors will play South Carolina at 1p.m. at Charlotte Latin. SouthLake Christian's Rich Landis is North Carolina's coach. The annual game was organized in 2005 by the Charlotte-based Oasis Shrine Temple

The event is similar to the Shrine Bowl, which is in its 73rd year, but doesn't include private school players. The Shrine Bowl is operated by five Shriners temples in the Carolinas. Oasis withdrew eight years ago.

... Charlotte Latin's picks are receiver Davis Austin, linebacker Chase Carbone and defensive back Paul Paschal.
