Helpful Resources

Charlotte Latin provides a number of resources for its students and families:

The Robison-Oates Counseling Program

Supported by an endowment established by two Latin families, the School’s counseling program provides a full-time counselor for each of the three divisions: Lower School, Middle School, and Upper School. The counselors are available by appointment for students and their parents to discuss any issue related to students’ academic success, physical health, or emotional well-being. The counseling program also sponsors speakers on campus who address topics of interest to families with young and adolescent children, including drug education and self-esteem issues.

College Center

The College Center is led by two full-time counselors who work one-on-one with Charlotte Latin’s Upper School students to guide their college search process. Our college counselors help each student identify his or her strengths and personal goals, and provide resources to help them select the best college based on these criteria.

Healthcare Professionals

Two nurses staff two fully-equipped health rooms, located in the Lower and Middle Schools. (Upper School students are served by the Middle School nurse and health room.) These healthcare professionals administer physician-approved medications to students and provide limited primary, short-term care for emerging health problems pending notification of parents.

The School staff also includes two certified athletic trainers who serve the needs of Charlotte Latin’s many student athletes.

Media Center

The state-of-the-art Media Center is open during regular School hours for use by students and parents. Featuring computers equipped with Internet access, newspapers from across the United States, a wide variety of periodicals, and research databases, the Media Center is a favorite campus spot for reading, research, and quiet study.

Located within the Media Center is the Carolinas Room, which houses a growing collection of printed materials and artifacts about the Carolinas written by Carolinas’ authors. Made possible by a gift from Latin alumni parents and current grandparents Ike and Carol Belk, the collection’s goal is to become the most extensive of its type.

Founders’ Hall/Dining Hall

The social center of the Charlotte Latin campus, the dining hall in Founders’ Hall serves reasonably-priced hot breakfasts and lunches, a variety of sandwiches, snacks, drinks, and make-it-yourself salads from a salad bar. Students, parents, faculty, and staff all join together to share lunch and enjoy conversations. Guests at the School are also welcome to purchase meals during the dining hall's operating hours: 6:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. on regular school days.

Supply Nest

Operated by Parents' Council volunteers, the Supply Nest is a small shop located in Founders’ Hall that sells basic school supplies, Charlotte Latin merchandise such as T-shirts, and a limited selection of textbooks. The Supply Nest is open immediately before and after school and during lunch hours.

Middle School Advisory Program

To assist students entering and progressing through adolescence, the Middle School incorporates a formal advisory program that enables teachers to interact with their students beyond routine classroom relationships. Each student is assigned to a faculty advisor as a member of an advisory team of approximately ten to twelve students. Teams meet twice a week for one class period to discuss issues important to this age group, including peer pressure and developing self-esteem. Advisors help organize their team members’ parent-teacher conferences, and provide an on-going adult contact for their students. Eighth grade advisors also help their students make a smooth transition to Upper School.

Middle School Intramurals Program

The Intramurals Program complements the Advisory Program, and involves every Middle School student in team games that stress participation over competition. The Intramurals Program meets once a week, and includes physical education activities, board games, and current events to build the students' self-esteem and to develop esprit de corps. A brochure outlining the Intramurals Program is available by calling the Middle School Office at (704) 846-7216.

Summer Programs

Charlotte Latin’s Summer Camp is a collection of specialty camps primarily designed for boys and girls in Lower and Middle School. Open to the public, these engaging camps serve as a community resource, and attract children from across Charlotte. Fees vary depending on the camp(s) selected.

Lake Latin

The School's two-acre lake serves as an outdoor classroom for Charlotte Latin’s students. Interwoven into the science curriculum at each grade level, the pond provides hands-on exploration and study of botany, biology, zoology, and the environmental sciences. Once threatened by pollution, the pond and its plant and animal life were restored to health as the result of a massive reclamation project spearheaded by Charlotte Latin students, parents, teachers, and administrators. The lake-centered science curriculum is available for use by educators, and the reclamation project model is available to groups wishing to save their own wetlands resources.
