The Latin Campus

The beauty and serenity of Charlotte Latin’s campus creates an environment dedicated to the love of learning and the development of intellectual curiosity. As one approaches the campus, the first impression is similar to entering a park. With more than 122 acres of mature trees, gardens, and expansive lawns, the School’s picturesque grounds certainly retain a natural setting, despite its convenient suburban Charlotte location. This unique setting is further enhanced by original works of sculpture in bronze and marble. An outdoor classroom is available for the many classes that meet under the sky on sunny days, a nature trail offers opportunities for students to study the campus’ variety of flora and fauna, and picnic tables dot the grounds, providing a place for students to study and socialize with friends during their free periods. Far from a casual layout, however, the campus is carefully designed to provide a sense of continuity for the students as they progress through the grades, while also creating distinct areas for each division to meet its unique needs.

The School plant, currently valued in excess of $35,000,000, encompasses fourteen major buildings, a football stadium/track, tennis courts, athletic fields, swimming facility, and a lake. All grade levels make full use of the campus, especially the Media Center, Thies Auditorium, and the cafeteria in Founders’ Hall. A 30,000-square-foot Science, Art and Technology Building opened in August, 2000, providing computer-networked science and engineering labs and sunlit art studios, which feature a sketching balcony and kilns. The Beck Student Activities Center opened in January, 2001. This 50,000-square-foot, multi-purpose facility provides additional practice and competition space for athletics, a fully-equipped wrestling room, a fitness center, space for physical education classes, and seating for large group activities, such as graduation ceremonies.

The Charlotte Latin School campus is a rare combination of natural beauty and modern facilities, giving our students the best of both worlds.
