Congratulations Charlotte Latin Hawks:
Winners of the
2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008 Wachovia Cups
Interscholastic
athletics has a long and rich tradition at Charlotte Latin
School. Throughout
its 36-year history, our students have proven they can compete
on the playing field, as well as in the classroom. Along
with the many conference and state titles earned over the years,
the School has always placed a premium on the values instilled
and the lessons learned from athletic competition.
Latin's mission states, in part, that the School
exists "to offer growth
promoting opportunities" for the members of our student body. Latin sponsors more than 65 athletic teams in 17 men's and women's sports, and more than 90% of our students in grades 7-12 participate in at least one sport.
Athletics provide the opportunity to extend classroom
lessons to a broader playing field where life lessons can be learned;
lessons in teamwork, self-discipline, personal sacrifice, respect,
and responsibility that enrich the lives of our students and prepare
them for life in the "real
world" following graduation. A commitment to athletic excellence
is not only reflected in the many championship banners collected over
the years, but also through Latin's adherence to high standards of
personal conduct and good sportsmanship on the part of coaches, players,
and fans alike.
