Charlotte Latin's Address

Letter From Arts Department Chairs

“The arts are fundamental resources through which the world is viewed, meaning is created, and the mind developed.”
Elliot W. Eisner

Welcome!

Did you know that students who participate in the arts are four times more likely to be recognized for academic achievement, or to be involved in community service? Did you know that students who study the arts also are likely to read for pleasure twice as often? Research shows that arts education strengthens a student’s problem-solving and critical-thinking skills and adds to the retention of subject matter in other areas. These examples are great reasons to have a strong fine arts elective program to enhance curriculum; however, at Latin, the arts are valued as an integral part of our students’ overall education from kindergarten through twelfth grade. The unique nature of each arts discipline offered at Latin, visual art, music, dance and drama, serves to allow our students to explore various perceptions of the world in hands-on, relevant ways. Our students are encouraged to explore their interests and are supported as they develop their unique talents. It is our pleasure to help emerging painters, dancers, sculptors, actors, singers, instrumentalists, and directors gain confidence in themselves, and a lifelong love of the arts.
