and Independent School Funding (2008-09)

Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten $14,350
Grades 1 - 5 $16,750
Grades 6 - 12 $18,000
  • A non-refundable deposit of $1,700 is required at the time of initial enrollment or re-enrollment; this amount will be deducted from the second tuition payment. No student can be enrolled or re-enrolled without this deposit.

  • Tuition includes most course and laboratory fees. Textbooks are included in Transitional Kindergarten through Grade 5 tuition costs, but are an additional expense in Grades 6 through 12. Also, for Grades 6 through 8 and Grade 12, there will be an advance payment of up to $400 for class trips. There is a required senior fee ($230) to cover expenses associated with Convocation, Baccalaureate, Senior Supper, and Graduation. Student Accident Insurance ($28), Tuition Refund Plan (0.65% of tuition), and Yearbook ($60) are optional charges and will appear on the June bill as such.

  • Advance payment of tuition for the full year is encouraged, but, for the convenience of parents, we offer the following payment options:

Payment for Full Year by June 30
If payment for a full year’s tuition is received by June 30, we offer a discount of $200 toward tuition. (Discount not available to financial aid recipients.)

Two Payment Plan (June 30 and November 30)
Payments may be made in two installments, with one half of tuition due by June 30 and the balance, less the $1,700 deposit, due by November 30.

    Monthly Payment Plan
With this prepayment plan, you pay the $1,700 deposit at the time of enrollment or re-enrollment and then make monthly payments beginning in April and ending in December. There is no fee or service charge if payments are made as required.

    Loan Programs
Please contact the Business Office for information available on loan programs from outside organizations.

  • All tuition must be paid before students may attend classes following the respective tuition due dates. A service charge of 1.5% per month will be added to all tuition charges that are not received or postmarked by the respective due dates. All miscellaneous charges must be paid before re-enrollment can be offered, report cards issued, diplomas awarded, or transcripts released. Miscellaneous charges during a month will be billed at the end of that month and are due when received. A monthly service charge of 1.5% (18% annual) will be added to any unpaid balance.

  • Charlotte Latin School has need-based, financial aid funds available for qualified families. The deadline for applying for financial aid for TK & KG is January 15, 2009 and for grades 1-12 is February 15, 2009.

  • If a financial emergency should occur, please contact the Business Office.

Funding Independent Education at Charlotte Latin School
Charlotte Latin School, like all independent schools, is responsible for its own funding without the benefit of revenue from local, state, or federal taxes.  Tuition and fees (that are fully taxable) provide most of the revenue needed to educate students.  The balance comes from gifts, which are tax-deductible.

Charlotte Latin has consistently maintained a conservative fiscal policy while continuing to strengthen its educational program and improve its facilities.  The operating budget funds Latin’s day-to-day needs, such as teacher salaries and educational programs and supplies.  The School’s endowment serves its longer term needs, such as faculty professional development, student financial aid, and construction.

The history of giving and the tradition of generosity at Latin continue to make the difference in our School’s success.  Tuition and fees do not cover the full cost of educating a student, so it is important that each family be prepared to make a tax-deductible annual gift.  Families who are new to the School are invited to participate in the New Family Campaign, a Latin tradition that provides invaluable support for the School’s programs.
